CMA CGM’s Futuristic Approach on Perishable Goods

Posted by

CMA CGM will increase its efficacy in the shipping of perishable goods by combining its container shipping service with Seatrade Group. Once the service is approved by authorities, they will transport perishable goods, such as fruits or meat in specialized reefer containers across major areas of the globe.

This new coalition is part of CMA CGM’s attempt to re-brand itself as the shipping company of the future. Rodolphe Saadé was handed the reigns of CMA CGM on February 9th, 2017.  Their new strategy shifts its focus to customer centricity, maritime, inland and logistics development, innovation and digitalization, human expertise and agile organization.

CMA CGM, Seatrade, and Marfret will compile a team of 13 “state of the art” vessels; with the capability of transporting over 2,000 TEUs and 600 reefer containers. Reefer containers have an integrated refrigeration unit capable of controlling temperatures ranging from -22 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

The French transportation company has claimed that it will provide the only fast, direct, dedicated reefer service from New Zealand to the US and Europe, improving the supply of transport between Australia and the US. The goal is to increase the amount of perishable goods shipped globally, while reducing the amount of cargo lost due to a lack of refrigeration.
